Reading at Home

In Year One reading is very important and in the Autumn Term we will aim to read with your child once a week. During this session your child's reading book will be changed therefore it is important that your child's reading book and diary are in their bookbag every day.

The more children practice the better they will be. We would like you to read with your child at least five times per week and record this in their reading diary. Please only comment with your child has read a school reading book to you (no bedtime story's please).

In Year One your child will only be sent home with one reading book, this is to allow your child to build up fluency and stamina, as well as gaining a feeling of success.

The words your child is learning to read will be circled, when they have learnt them they will be highlighted and new ones will be circled. When your child can read the first 300 words they will be sent home with a spelling book. This will have a list of spellings that your child is learning to spell, once they know them, we will put new ones in the spelling book.
