Daily Learning Expectations

Every day we will upload details of the learning we expect you to do on that day. Please look for the yellow pencil with the date on for each day. Any songs or videos can be found in the Learning Zone (star icons).

In Foundation 1 your daily learning is

  • Phonics activity
  • Name writing
  • Maths activity
  • Play a game which involve taking turns and following simple rules
  • One activity from the Bingo Grid. This consists of nine topic related tasks, linked to our areas of learning. These are Communication & Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Understanding the World or Expressive Arts and Design.
The majority of our learning is done through play or play based activities.
Please continue to use EExAT to let us know how they are getting on.

In Foundation 2 your daily learning is

Reading Books

Phases 2, 3.1 and 3.2 are for Foundation 2 children. They are separated into Phases which match your child's existing reading books. Please look at the number on the reading books in your child's book bag - this will be 2, 3.1 or 3.2. Each week we will be uploading three books for each phase but remember that re-reading the books is also useful to build speed and fluency. This enables children to move beyond decoding the words and allows them to concentrate on the meaning (comprehension.)

Please try to read with your child a little every day - it will make a huge difference to their progress! As they move into Year 1, fluent reading will enable them to access all areas of the curriculum. Please use EExAT to let us know how they are getting on.

Foundation Learning Zone

We have uploaded the children's favourite videos which can be accessed on a laptop, tablet or phone. They are separated into,

  • Foundation 1 Key Texts (The 6 stories which we revisit regularly in Foundation 1). Research shows that knowing some stories really well supports children's storytelling and writing later on.
  • Foundation 2 Key Texts
  • English songs - This is where you will find our daily phonics songs. In both F1 and F2 we always sing the ants on the apple song to help children to learn their letter sounds (eg. a for apple). This is vital for both reading and writing. It is sung to the tune of "skip to my lou." Around Easter time in F2 we also add the ABC song which helps children learn their letter names. In F1 please focus on the ants on the apple song (not ABC) as this will help them as they begin to read and write.
  • Number songs - These are some of our most popular songs and will help with counting in ones, twos, fives, tens and also with our number bonds (pairs of numbers that make 10). We always start our maths sessions with a song! Don't forget that the old classics are also useful - five currant buns, 5 little speckled frogs, ten fat sausages etc.
  • Numberblocks - These useful little characters can really help your child to visualise numbers and understand how they can be used to add and subtract.
  • Shape, Space and Measures songs - These are really catchy and contain some fantastic information. Did you know that a 12 sided shape was called a dodecagon? You'll soon be singing along as these songs get stuck in your head!
  • Keep fit videos - These are some of our favourite videos that we use to get the tickle out of our toes! We use them daily to wake our brains and bodies up, ready for learning time. They are also useful on rainy days!

Update 17.4.20

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your engagement with the EExAT system. The staff have really enjoyed seeing your lovely work from home.

To ensure the system keeps working effectively, please put on one update a day, detailing your activities for that day - rather than individual photos for each activity.

Please see below for an example.

On Fridays from 24th April we would also like to see your completed reading comments for that week.

24/3/20 X’s completed work today. She’s also enjoyed working out to Joe in her onsie!! X did well sounding out and writing the sentence with little support. She did reverse her ‘s’ but noticed and corrected them.

Animal update

The guinea pigs, Bert and Ernie, have been having a wonderful time at Mrs Formon's house. They have been out on the garden, enjoying the sunshine and even making friends with Mrs Formon's cat!

The chickens are now at Miss Chick's house where they have been eating everything in the garden and enjoying long dust baths in the sunshine! They are getting very cheeky and keep sitting on Miss Chick's shoulders when she is trying to work!
