Maths homework supports the teaching that has taken place in school during the week. Children should be confident to tackle either the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum challenge. There is an expectation that your child completes at least 2 challenges but they are more than welcome to have a go at more if they so wish!

Reading with your child, and to your child, will be hugely beneficial to your child's reading, knowledge, vocabulary and writing. Therefore, we ask for you to support our work in school by reading with your child at least 5 times a week and comment in their Reading Diary each time they read. Reading diaries will be checked weekly to ensure that children are reading at home and books will be changed on a regular basis. Each time your child reads 5 times in one week they will receive a House Point!
In addition to reading books, Year 1 also operate a ‘Key Word’ system based on the first 300 words children are expected to be able to read by the end of Year 1. Your child will receive the correct card containing words to be practised and learned by sight without sounding out. Being able to read these words on sight will hugely benefit your child’s fluency when reading their books.
